Commemorating the first anniversary of the death of Juan Goytisolo the exhibition “Expectation and Memory. Approaching shores” arrives in Valladolid. Under the organization of the Ankaria Foundation, and again in collaboration with the Fundación Municipal de Cultura del Ayuntamiento de Valladolid, this photo exhibition will open its doors on the 20th of April and may be visited until the 10th of June at the Sala Municipal de la Iglesia de las Francesas.
The exhibition has been curated by critic and independent curator Sema D’Acosta, and proposes a general reflection on Spain and Morocco -two concomitant places but at the same time strangers- through photography that reviews with detention, relations and exchanges that have kept the two countries from the early twentieth century until today in north Africa. This exhibition is not only a selection of visual works from different periods, but rather a setting to establish through a global global overlook, the prolonged influences between two related cultures on two opposite continents.
The exhibition brings back the last century of history taking as reference photographs by Spanish and Moroccan artists such as Bartolomé Ros, Nicolás Muller, Atin Aya, Miguel Trillo, Castro Prieto, Francis Tsang, Manolo Espaliú, Carla Andrade, Lucas Gómez, Bruno Barbey, Omar Mahfoudi, Leila Alaoui and Yasmine Taferssiti.
