Roberto Aguirrezabala wins the V Ankaria Artist Book Award

The fifth edition of the La Palabra Pintada award for the best artist book, granted by the Ankaria Foundation every year, has been given to Roberto Aguirrezabala (Sestao, 1971) for his work “Parabellum”, a piece that emerges from a shot that crosses simultaneously two emblematic books in editions of great historical value: Thus spoke Zarathustra (Also sprach Zarathustra) of Friedrich Nietzsche in the original German war edition of 1918 and Quotations of Chairman Mao of 1967 original in Chinese of full Cultural Revolution. A bullet of 9mm parabellum crosses the communism of Mao and the ideological rise of Nazism in the same shot.

The jury has awarded the second prize to the artist Raúl Díaz Reyes (1977) for his “Always in love”. For the second year, and in a double way, we wanted to reward the work of a young creator to encourage the production of artist books. The winner in this category is Natalia Escudero (Zaragoza, 1991) with her work “Sin Título”, and an access to this category has been granted to Razvan Gabriel Pantea (Bucharest, 1994) for his “CODE”.

The La Palabra Pintada Award has become, in its five years of life, the most important one organized in Spain within this specialty and is open to the participation of plastic artists from all over the world. To the present edition a total of 298 projects belonging to artists of different nationalities have attended. Thank you all.
