The Ankaria Foundation has chosen the six artists (three Spanish and three Senegalese) who will participate during the next months in the first edition of Tranversia, the residency program Senegal-Spain with which the institution intends to promote the international mobility of artists, as well as the collaboration and exchange of ideas and projects.
The Spanish artists whose projects have been selected, and who will travel to Senegal during the month of November 2018, are:
- Avelino Sala (Gijón, 1972)
- Paula Anta (Madrid, 1977)
- Julio García Falagán (Valladolid)
While the Senegalese artists who will travel to Madrid in February 2019 to launch their creative proposals, are:
- Abdoulaye Armine Kane (Dakar, Senegal, 1965)
- Fally Sene Sow (Dakar, Senegal, 1989)
- Caroline Gueye (Dakar, Senegal, 1989)
During their stay in the respective countries, the artists will be accompanied by a documentalist, who will record, both in written and graphic form, the development of the six proposed projects.
The selection of the projects presented to Transversia Senegal-Spain has been carried out by an artistic commission formed by the president of the Ankaria Foundation, Ricardo Martí Fluxá; the director of the program, Che Marchesi; the trustees of the Foundation Saleta Rosón and Jaime Mairata; José María Luna, director of the Public Agency for the Management of the Natal House Museum of Pablo Picasso, Russian Museum and Center Pompidou of Málaga; the curator Juan Francisco Rueda; Marieme Ba, general secretary of the Dakar Biennial; and Thérèse Turpin, director of the Kemboury Gallery in Dakar.
This commission has highlighted from the selected projects its “great originality and strong intellectual consistency, to examine by a heterogeneous perspective of disciplines and styles, problems of a social, natural and political nature that are part of the debate of our time”.
